Publish your book online
Publish your book. Sell it to your readers. We print and ship each copy.
Run a pre-order campaign: readers order, the print run is confirmed at 25 copies, and Kobo prints and ships a copy to every reader. You keep the profit.
Join the waitlist See your profit per copy
Kobo is opening the author store to authors in turn. Join the waitlist, build your page now, and submit it when it is ready: we approve each author by hand and email you.
Pre-order a book campaign, exactly as your readers see it
Example
18 of 25 copies ordered · 7 more to print
12 days left · Ships from 15 December
How it works
- Set your price and print choices. Add a cover (a mock-up is fine), your text, an estimate of the pages and your price. You see your profit per copy before you publish. No manuscript is needed to start.
- Share your link. You get one page for your book. Send it on WhatsApp first, then Instagram or your own site. Readers pre-order and pay Kobo.
- We print and ship. When 25 copies are ordered, you upload your print files, we check them, and Kobo prints and delivers to every reader in 7 to 10 working days from order to delivery.
What you earn on each copy
| Reader pays | ₦10,000 |
| Print cost per copy | −₦5,250 |
| Kobo fee (7%) | −₦700 |
| You keep, per copy | ₦4,050 |
| On 25 copies | ₦101,250 |
Example: an A5 paperback, 100 pages, black and white, 25 copies, at today’s Kobo print price. Delivery to your reader is charged by area and is not included. You can also pass the 7% fee to your reader. Try your own price.
Sell your book online with one link
Your book sales link is the whole shop. Share it on WhatsApp first, then everywhere else, and put a button on your own website. Every book gets its own page with the cover, price, bundles (1, 5 or 10 copies), a progress bar and the ship date.
We print and ship your book
- Readers pay Kobo by bank transfer (matched to their order) or by card.
- You are paid monthly: from ₦20,000, and our staff approve each withdrawal. Never instant.
- Every deduction is its own labelled line on your dashboard: print cost, delivery, Kobo’s 7%.
- See your numbers: page views, orders, readers and revenue for each book, and a download of your buyers.
Questions
How do I get in?
Join the waitlist and build your page now. When it is ready, press Submit for approval: we look at it, and if it is approved it goes live and your later pages go live without waiting. We email you either way.
What if 25 copies are not ordered?
The campaign is extended by another 30 days, and you and your readers are told. Nothing is printed and nobody is charged for a run that does not happen.
What does it cost me?
Nothing to start. You pay the print cost of each copy, and Kobo keeps 7% of each reader sale, shown as its own line. You can choose to add the 7% on top of your price so the reader pays it.
How do readers pay?
By bank transfer to Kobo with a reference for their order (each payment is matched and confirmed), or by card through Paystack.
When do I get my money?
Your share of each sale goes to your balance. You can withdraw once a month, from ₦20,000, and our staff approve each withdrawal. It is not instant, so plan for it.
Who pays for delivery?
Delivery to each reader is charged by area and shown before they pay.
Do I need my manuscript to start?
No. Set up the page with a cover mock-up and an estimate of the pages. You upload your print files only after the minimum is reached; we check them before anything is printed. If your final page count differs from your estimate, the print cost is recalculated and you carry the difference, never your readers.
